Dear Families,
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – CROSS COUNTRY
As you know, our Whole School Cross-Country event is coming up on Thursday, 6th March. We require parent volunteers to help as marshals and parent support is essential to ensure the event runs smoothly. Amy Parsons, our new PE teacher, kindly requests assistance with set-up at 8:00 AM, marshalling from 9:00 AM to 11:15 AM, or both. Additionally, a teacher will be riding/running at the front of each race for students aged 8 to 13 (Years 3 to 6) for the time they run out of the school grounds. If you are available to help, please email wallington.ps@education.vic.gov.au or speak with your child’s teacher as soon as you can. Your support is greatly appreciated.
JUNIOR SCHOOL COUNCIL 2025
This week, Years 1-6 held their Junior School Council (JSC) elections, with students participating in the nomination, speeches, and voting process. The JSC provides an important opportunity for students to represent their peers and ensure that all voices are heard in school projects, fundraising initiatives, and decisions on how fundraising efforts are used to improve our school.
At Wallington, we value leadership at all levels and are committed to providing students with opportunities to develop their leadership skills as they actively contribute to maintaining our positive school community. Congratulations to all students who took part in the process - we look forward to seeing the positive impact this year’s Junior School Council will have!
Congratulations to the following elected Junior School Council members for 2025!
Year 1 – Flynn P
Year 2 – Tucker M
Year 3 – Mickal S
Year 4 – Joshua M
Year 5 – Jordon H-C
Year 6 – Oliver M
Junior School Council representatives will be introduced and presented with their badges at this Friday’s assembly.
TERM 1 CLUBS
In addition to our wonderful variety of fun and engaging playtime activity options spread across our beautiful playgrounds and outside spaces, we love to offer special clubs to further encourage and support a range of interests and engagement at Wallington. Lunchtime clubs are open throughout the week, along with Breakfast Club on Thursday mornings before school. This term, we have Garden Club Tuesdays (with the wonderful parent volunteers), Craft Club Thursdays (with Ms Cook), and beginning next week, Minecraft club Wednesdays (first lunch play with Mr K-T). Additionally, every lunch play, students can engage in use of our Imagination Station at the top playground.
SCHOOL COUNCIL NOMINATIONS OPEN
As mentioned in yesterday’s Compass post, nominations for our current vacancies are now open and must be submitted by 4:00 pm on Tuesday, 25th February. There are five vacant parent positions and if we receive more than five nominations, a ballot will be held in accordance with School Council election policy.
Being part of the School Council is a fantastic way to contribute to our school community, share your perspective, and help shape the future of our school. The commitment is flexible, with just two meetings per term, providing a manageable way to actively contribute while also allowing for opportunities for greater involvement suited to your capacity within your area of expertise.
If you are interested, please consider nominating. We look forward to welcoming new faces and perspectives to the council.

Wellbeing at Wallington
Hello and welcome to the first of Wallington’s Weekly Wellbeing Activities!
As you might have noticed, there are a range of wellbeing activities in the student diaries this year. These activities have been developed as part of the Berry Street Educational Model to increase the engagement of students in their learning and support families and schools to to support students’ self-regulation, relationships and wellbeing.
This year students and their families have the opportunity to complete these activities together at home. They can be used as prompts for discussions around the dinner table or while driving in the car, or can be filled out in the diary by the student and/or their family. While these activities are not mandatory they provide students additional opportunities to build self-awareness and resilience with support and encouragement.
This week's activity asks students to check in with their emotions and the signs that their bodies are sending them. You can try modelling checking-in with your emotions for your child, for example “I’m feeling tired, I notice that my body is moving slowly” or “I’m feeling rushed and my mind is really busy” and asking them to explain their emotions and how their bodies are feeling.
It’s always interesting to hear how students experience and identify their emotions and gives us a great insight into how we can help them navigate strong emotions.
The Wellbeing Team
We just wanted to take a moment to say a big thank you to our families for their generous donations to our Breakfast Club with a special shout out to the Bogan family (Bakers Delight Gateway Leopold). Your support makes a huge difference and helps us continue providing breakfast for our students. We truly appreciate your kindness and commitment to our cause!
